La ventenne cantante neozelandese torna sulle scene dopo quasi 18 mesi con una nuova canzone. Green Light è stato pubblicata il 3 Marzo 2017, la canzone è stata scritta da Lorde, Jake Antonoff e Joel Little a cui si aggiunge Frank Dukes come produttore.
Durante una intervista radiofonica la cantante ha raccontato:
"La canzone è veramente su quei momenti tipo subito dei cambiamenti di vita e su tutte quelle sciocche cose che ci gravitano intorno."
"Sono così orgoglioso di questa canzone. E 'molto diversa, alquanto inaspettata. E' complessa e divertente, triste e gioiosa e vi farà ballare"
Musicalmente il brano è mix di più generi: il pop, la musica dance con qualche influenza elettronica.
